Adams wants Vieira at Pompey

Portsmouth manager Tony Adams covets his former Arsenal teammate Patrick Vieira.

“He is definitely a player I’d like to bring here if he was available,” Adams told the Sunday Mirror.  “I will be speaking to Inter manager Jose Mourinho and asking about him.”

The former Arsenal captain Vieira, 32, has made just 48 appearances since joining Inter Milan in 2006, battling a myriad of injuries.

There’s no evidence Mourinho plans to sell Vieira.  However, given the current squad situation, if Adams has interest in a Vieira return to England, why not Wenger?

David Beckham to A.C. Milan on Loan?

David Beckham may return to Europe on loan during MLS’ winter break, to keep fit for English national team duty.  According to an unnamed e-mail source at MLS Rumors, that club might be A.C. Milan.

If Beckham harbors 2010 ambitions, such a move would make sense.  Italy would also be a probable destination, as his past allegiances with Man U and Real Madrid may keep him away from England and Spain.

Should he consider England, Arsenal may be interested.  Wenger is a noted admirer of Beckham.  He trained with the Arsenal squad last season.  They also lack depth and experience in midfield.

Cassano to Manchester City?

Things aren’t quite crazy enough at Manchester City so far this season.  This is why they want to insert talented Italian agitator Antonio Cassano to the mix (because they need another striker).  The rumor rests on the following.

Manchester City tried to buy Cassano this summer, and are still interested.

Sampdoria has problems thus far, with no wins from their first six matches.  Cassano has been one  of them.

Cassano allegedly met with Roberto Mancini–rumored to take over as Man City manager–on Sept. 21.

Serie A May Break Away to Form Italian Super League

Italian top league Serie A appears set to part with second division Serie B to form a Super League, in a move similar to the advent of the English Premier League in the early 1990s.

The move would be attractive financially for Serie A sides.  They would escape the burden of subsidizing an unprofitable Serie B.  They could also then renegotiate a more lucrative television contract, placing them on a firmer financial footing to compete with English clubs.

Serie B likely will reject a payout of 65 million euros from Serie A for this season.
