Adriano Booted From Inter Training for Drunkenness

Jose Mourinho sent Adriano home from training, after the Brazilian striker arrived at Inter’s training ground still drunk.  Maicon also got the boot for showing up in a similar state.

The 26-year-old has dealt with alcoholism and depression that derailed his once promising career.  He seemed to recover form at the beginning of the season.  Though, it’s apparent his issues are not resolved.

Mourinho dropped Adriano for five straight matches, after a similar incident Oct. 28 when he arrived late.  He had re-entered the squad just last Tuesday, for the Champions League tie against Werder Bremen.

According to Gazzetta Adriano missed two additional training sessions last month because of “fever.”

Adriano probably needs a change of scenery to resurrect his career (and his life.)  That may come more quickly than he intended.

Champions League Match Day 5 Results

steven-gerrard-the-saviourBordeaux 1 – Chelsea 1: Chelsea strode out negatively, seeming more content to tackle chestily than attack, and it was to their detriment.  Anelka put them ahead but Diarra’s wonderful header evened the score.  If Chelsea do not beat Cluj, they could drop to the UEFA Cup.

CFR Cluj 1 – Roma 3: Matteo Brighi was hot, and it had nothing to do with his effeminate sweater.  His two goals and a third from Totti gave Roma a comfortable victory.  One point clear in Group A, Roma advance with a draw.

Inter Milan 0 – Panathinaikos 1: Mourinho played narrow, suffocating the midfield.  Panathinaikos stole a second half goal and withstood the barrage.  Inter move forward, but unimpressively.  The Greeks look likely to do the same.

Anorthosis Famagusta 2 – Werder Bremen 2: The Germans fought off two second half deficits, but could not get the required win to stay in the tournament.  The draw hurts Anorthosis, who must now win in Greece to move on to the knockout stages.

Liverpool 1 – Marseille 0: Steven Gerrard celebrated his tenth anniversary in fitting fashion, a sub-par performance punctuated with a critical goal.  Marseille may have had the better day, but Liverpool win and move through.

Atletico Madrid 2 – PSV Eindhoven 1: There was a party at the Vicente Calderon, but no one else was invited.  In front of the empty stadium, Simão and Maxi Rodriguez put the Spanish side ahead, the prolific Danny Koevermans could only retort with one.  Atletico advance.

Sporting Lisbon 2 – Barcelona 5: Barcelona scored five goals with four shots on target, thanks  to a Sporting back four conceding two own goals and a penalty.  There was no crying for Bojan Krkic, whose late penalty conversion will hopefully help his confidence.

Shakhtar Donetsk 5 – FC Basel 0: Shakhtar showed Ukraine is not weak, led by Brazilian Jadson’s hat trick.  It was too late for this endeavor, but they secured the UEFA Cup parachute.

Is Inter Tapping Up Drogba?

didier-drogbaDidier Drogba may be moving to Italy, after reports emerged of an illicit Monday night dinner with Inter Milan executives.

Drogba allegedly had dinner with Inter Milan Sporting Director Marco Branca, Inter manager Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes and his own agent.

Mourinho denied knowledge of the dinner.  ”I don’t know where Branca was, I was at dinner at Cernobbio,” he said. ”I know absolutely nothing about this story.

Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari betrayed his perturbment when questioned about it.  ”I do not sleep with him,” retorted Scolari. ”Where he was last night? I don’t know. I am not a policeman for my players.”

The 30-year-old sparked transfer rumos over the summer, though he eventually decided to stay with Chelsea.  His career peaked at Chelsea, under Mourinho’s guidance, though a reunification with Drogba did not concern him when he called the Ivorian a diver.

Crespo Could Join Real Madrid in January

Inter Milan striker Hernan Crespo may be Real Madrid’s replacement for Ruud Van Nistelrooy in January.

The 33-year-old Argentine has been adrift in the Inter squad, making just three appearances this season.  He was also left off the Champions League roster.

Jose Mourinho seemed open to the idea.

“Them wanting him is logical,” Mourinho told Setanta. “It’s easy to understand that such a club as Real Madrid are thinking of Crespo, as there are not many talented strikers on the market that can replace Van Nistelrooy.

“Besides he can play the Champions League. He is a player that can be important for Real Madrid, but for Inter as well whereas I have too many players, 29.”

Adams wants Vieira at Pompey

Portsmouth manager Tony Adams covets his former Arsenal teammate Patrick Vieira.

“He is definitely a player I’d like to bring here if he was available,” Adams told the Sunday Mirror.  “I will be speaking to Inter manager Jose Mourinho and asking about him.”

The former Arsenal captain Vieira, 32, has made just 48 appearances since joining Inter Milan in 2006, battling a myriad of injuries.

There’s no evidence Mourinho plans to sell Vieira.  However, given the current squad situation, if Adams has interest in a Vieira return to England, why not Wenger?
