Rescinded Red

Oh the media monkeys and their junket junkies will invite you to their plastic pantomime. Throw their invites away.

Capello the Chip Nazi

capelloFabio Capello revealed one of his blueprints for England’s success, dietary restrictions.

The Italian manager banned both fries and ketchup from the team, stressing the benefits of a Mediterranean diet.

His regime resembles the diet imposed at Arsenal by Arsene Wenger, which limits players’ intakes of fat and sugar, emphasizing vegetables, rice and lean protein.

There has, however, been a voice of dissent from noted dietary expert Harry Redknapp.

I know the odd indulgence doesn’t hurt players from time to time…besides, what can you do? Can you follow a player home to check if his missus is giving him steak and kidney pie for tea instead of pasta?

Ramos Out Redknapp In, The Revolution at Spurs is Over

After a disastrous start to the season that saw the club earn just two points from a possible twenty-four, the relegation bell resounded at Tottenham.  The club fired manager Juande Ramos and director of football Damien Comolli.  Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp will replace Ramos.

Surprisingly for Spurs, the moves make sense.

Comolli, the germ of the problem, needed to go.  He came from Arsenal to bring a bit of the Wenger way to White Hart Lane.  Instead, he behaved oppositely.  He paid top-dollar for peak-interest players, building a squad, unwieldy and unbalanced.  He bungled negotiations.  He never instituted the unity of purpose between manager, brain-trust and board that has underlined Arsenal’s success.  His failure warranted the sack.

Ramos, though not a bad manager, should have been fired as well.  Tottenham forced him to cook without buying the groceries, but he didn’t salvage anything edible.  In another environment with more control, he may have been successful.  But, at Tottenham, he embodied failure and looked clueless to escape it.  Ramos didn’t have the squad to compete for the top four, but, they have enough talent to not be at the bottom.  Abilities aside, he didn’t perform.

Harry Redknapp’s signing was shrewd as well.  He won’t remake Tottenham into Manchester United, but he will steer them off the road towards Leeds.  Given money to spend, he can wheel and deal to construct a decent squad.  He also has the fortitude to stabilize the tempestuous tiller this season.  There’s security in those jowels.

He did leave Portsmouth in a lurch, although his situation there, without the promised funds, looked untenable.  He saved them from relegation and won an FA Cup.  He deserves their gratitude.

Tottenham fans should not rejoice yet, however.  Daniel Levy, the man who hired everyone involved and had his prodigious finger in the pot of every decision, will still be chairman.
